Another June is quickly upon us, and so too
is the 2nd annual Greenwich International Film Festival. Thousands
of people from all over the world will trickle on to downtown Greenwich's
streets to celebrate the minds and concepts of tomorrow’s great filmmakers.
The mission of the Greenwich
International Film Festival is to provide filmmakers with an effective platform
to showcase their work with the goal of finding financing and distribution.
Additionally, the film festival harnesses the power of film by highlighting an important cause each year. The 2016 Festival will focus on human rights issues. The festival's charitable and socially conscious mission has led it to donate a portion of proceeds to many nonprofit organizations.

The campaign enables young
filmmakers to create and showcase one-minute films. The selection of UNICEF as
the Festival's first beneficiary organization was decided on to support efforts
to "build a model that made the most of those connections to benefit both
individual filmmakers and a charity everyone believed in."
The Greenwich International Film
Festival offers a number of awards and cash prizes, including $10,000 cash
prizes for Best Social Impact Film, Best Narrative Feature, and Best
Documentary Feature, and $2,500 cash prized for Best Narrative Short and Best
Documentary Short.
Screenings and events are set to take
place at several venues, most within walking distance of each other to create
an authentic festival village. Venues include: Greenwich Bow Tie Cinemas, Cole
Auditorium at Greenwich Library, L'Escale Restaurant, Restoration Hardware,
Massey Theater at Greenwich Academy and Miller Motorcars.
This year’s festival is set for
June 9th to the 12th. For more information, or to buy
passes in advance, visit http://www.greenwichfilm.org.
